I recently finished “A Slip of the Keyboard” by Terry Pratchett. It is a collection of his non-fiction writing. So wonderful to hear his voice again. I don’t think I ever actually heard him speak, but that voice in my head as I read the book was the same voice I remember from reading the Discworld novels. It’s been so long since I really dived into his books, I’ve re-read the first few several times but my travels around the world mean my collection is incomplete and I can never quite remember if there are a few still in my mum’s attic and I always plan to check each summer, then forget… so maybe I’ll just give up and re-buy them. I’m trying to decide whether to dive into the City Guard books, or go for some of the later ones. Or maybe I need a Granny Weatherwax fix.
In one of the articles in A Slip of the Keyboard (I’m not telling you which one so that you have to read the whole book!) he said that the best time to start writing something new is as soon as you’ve just finished writing something. That way you’re always a writer.
So, I thought I’d try following his advice. I started this post once I’d finished and scheduled Listening. It’s interesting, knowing I had something unfinished has brought me back to finish it. I didn’t know where I’d go with this, but at least the title seems to have stuck this time.
Must be good advice. Now that I’m finishing this post, I better start another one.
